February 2026 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Feels like our winter is near the end of it for this year, let’s hope. Overall, our February weather hasn’t been that bad as compared to other Cities. Very quickly, our Chinese New Year is over with lots of community celebrations and family gathering. I do wish everyone and their family a belated Happy New Year, year of the fire Horse.

This last February continues to be a busy month for the Centre. Our programming has been very well received, and fully engaged, our cooking class, mahjong class, pickleball, table tennis, Taichi class, and Dragon/Lion Dance class. We are now preparing the commencement of our calligraphy classes which is already fully subscribed and likely will have to offer two sessions instead. It is exciting to see the center is being well used and attended. The increase of foot traffics over Saturday, Sunday and even during weekdays with various programs are very exciting to observe.

Our Tai Chi Program is now extended to late May for every Sunday. The member participation is very encouraging.

High light for February is our first Lunar New Year Table Tennis Tournament. An event that is new for the Centre and our community. Event was a full day event, with over 120 players compete, and over 200 attendants of various age groups and coming from different part of the city. The enthusiastic crowd makes the day very exciting, and with our event team, we consider this a very successful event and will plan to continue this as an annual event. We will take this moment to thanks our sponsors for the donating the cash prizes, total of $5,000 was awarded to the winning players.

Construction of our new affordable housing project continue, with foundation near completion, framing of first floor will commence early April 2026. Chinatown will remain noisier for the next while, then it will bring another 54 households to live within Chinatown. This is an income base housing facility, we encourage anyone within our community interested in obtaining more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of WCCCC or our website:

Our next scheduled community service program is scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd and 29th, 2026 – Tax Filing Services. Please check out our event poster on our website.

1. February 2026 Activities:

  • Booking of our Gymnasium continue to grow for basketball groups, table tennis groups, pickleball and planning for badminton is also starting.
  • Our lion and dragon dance group have received expanded interest especially the younger generation; regular practice continues from 12:00noon to 3:00pm every Sunday.

2. Upcoming Programming for all age groups :

Health / Senior Program:

  • The program is being scheduled during the winter of 2026
  • The cooking classes are also in progress.

Sports Program:

  • Lion Dance team, along with our dragon dance team, as our cultural recreational activities, 12:00noon to 3:00 pm, every Sunday
  • The Tai Chi program is currently underway and will be extended through May.

Arts and Language:

  • Calligraphy Class is in progress.
  • Chinese language class, programming in progress

感觉今年的冬天快要结束了，希望如此。总体来说，与其他城市相比，我们二月份的天气还算不错。转眼间，我们的农历新年在众多社区庆祝活动和家庭团聚中圆满结束。我在此衷心祝愿大家及家人新年快乐——火马年吉祥（迟来的祝福）。

刚刚过去的二月对中心来说依然是忙碌的一个月。我们的各项活动都获得了热烈欢迎，参与度非常高，包括烹饪班、麻将班、匹克球、乒乓球、太极班以及舞龙舞狮班。我们目前正在筹备书法班的开课，该课程已经全部报满，很可能需要改为开设两个班次。看到中心被如此充分地使用和参与，令人十分振奋。无论是周六、周日，甚至是工作日，各类活动都带来了明显增加的人流，这种景象令人非常欣喜。

我们的太极课程现已延长至五月底，每周日举行。会员的积极参与令人备受鼓舞。

二月的亮点活动是我们首届农历新年乒乓球锦标赛。这是中心和社区首次举办此类活动。比赛为期一整天，共有超过120名选手参赛，吸引了200多名来自城市各个地区、不同年龄层的观众到场。热情洋溢的观众让整个赛事气氛十分热烈。通过活动团队的努力，我们认为这是一次非常成功的活动，并计划将其发展为年度赛事。在此，我们也感谢赞助商提供现金奖品，总额达5,000加元，颁发给获奖选手。

我们新的可负担住房项目建设仍在继续，目前地基工程已接近完成，预计将于2026年4月初开始一层结构施工。唐人街在接下来的一段时间内仍会比较嘈杂，但项目完成后，将为社区新增54户家庭入住。这是一项按收入水平设定的住房项目。我们鼓励社区内有兴趣了解更多信息的人士，欢迎随时联系 WCCCC 办公室或访问我们的网站。：https://wcccc.ca
