May 2026 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

A late arrival of our short spring this year. Summer came without any advance notice; we have just jumped into the beautiful summer season that we all deserve after a relatively reasonable winter this year. Grass is green, trees are green and hope everyone will have a wonderful summer this year.

This is my first report after our 2026 AGM, with a few minor changes to our Board, in the attempt to better serve our community, changes will continue as needed. We once again were able to hold another successful spring table tennis tournament in May with over 100 players from all over the city, from US and Saskatchewan. It was another long tournament, didn’t get finished until 10:00pm. All worth the effort of our volunteers, and our sponsors.

We are once again moving into a busy period of the center, other than the multiple programs under the Senior Programs, different committees are set and have begin with preparation for our annual Folklorama during August 9th to 15th, second week of this annual two-week event. Following that will be our annual Night Market scheduled for September 12th and 13th. Lots of planning, organizational process and best of all, working along side with our team of volunteers. An encouraging outcome of 2025 – 2026 year is the recruitment of cross generation volunteers with more younger volunteers getting involve in all aspect of either programming or planning of events, especially our MCYC group. Thank you.

Our Tai Chi Program is now extended to late July instead of May for every Sunday. The member participation is very encouraging. It will also expand to two classes in September – beginners and Intermediate class. Calligraphy is also taking on a lot of interest. WCCCC will be hosting our 2026 Calligraphy Competition in October with cash prizes. Information for all these noted programs are posted on our official website.
