The Tatars mainly live in northern Xinjiang. They have a long history combining nomadism and trade, passing down stories and history through folk music and poems.
Their culture blends Central Asian customs. Their traditional costumes are elegant, with delicate embroidery on tunics, vests and soft hats, suited to the local temperate grassland lifestyle.
