About Manitoba Chinese Youth Committee
“Work hard, play hard, ” isn’t just a motto. It’s a lifestyle.
This non-profit organization, run and funded by students, does just that.
Dedicated to expanding the knowledge of Chinese culture, and fostering the relationship between all the multicultural communities within Winnipeg, MCYC has a mission:
A community of youth raising awareness for Chinese culture and multiculturalism.
Where are we from?
Words from a founding member:“We began in 2011 when a handful of students, freshly graduated from the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre’s (WCCCC) Leadership Training Program, decided to put their newly learned skills to work. Having recognized two concerns—the lack of youth involvement in the Chinese community and the absence of cross-cultural collaborations—this handful of students, under the guidance of the WCCCC, founded the Manitoba Chinese Youth Committee. Although initially guided by advisors from the WCCCC, we quickly established our identity as a youth-led initiative, forming a self-governing body to oversee our committee’s operations. Now, our advisors play a supporting role, mediating communication between us and the WCCCC, and offering their experienced input to our discussions.”
